The African community in Pittsburgh in the USA is grieving the sudden passing of Lebogang “Lebo” Benedict Ramatebele, who died on August 12, 2025, at the age of 43. Known for his kindness, dedication, and creativity, Lebo’s death has left friends, colleagues, and family in shock.
A Life of Service and Creativity
Originally from Botswana, Lebo made a name for himself in Pittsburgh through both healthcare and the arts. He worked as an EEG Technician at Allegheny General Hospital and UPMC, where he was admired for his compassion and professionalism.
Outside of the hospital, Lebo expressed his creativity at Aahmani Afrikan Braids, where his gifted hands and warm personality brought confidence and joy to countless clients. For many, he was more than a professional — he was a friend and a source of inspiration.
Plans to Repatriate
Following his passing, efforts are now underway to return Lebo to Botswana, where his family wishes to lay him to rest with dignity and in line with cultural traditions.
Repatriation is a complex and costly process, and members of the Pittsburgh community have come together to raise funds. Friends, co-workers, and well-wishers are being invited to contribute towards covering the expenses of carrying him home, through a GoFundMe appeal.
