Diaspora Insurance Backs African Diaspora Healthcare Leadership at Oxford University Ceremony
By Diaspora Insurance News
The historic halls of Oxford University set the stage for a powerful gathering of leadership, service, and shared vision as Diaspora Insurance joined African diplomats, healthcare professionals, and diaspora organisations for a landmark event in the United Kingdom.
The occasion was the oath-taking ceremony of the Alliance of International Nurses and Midwives Diaspora in the UK, and Diaspora Insurance was one of the sponsors.
More than a formal ceremony, the event symbolised the growing strength, organisation, and influence of African professionals in the diaspora and their commitment to excellence and community impact.
The oath of office was formally administered before James Macnamara DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, lending civic significance and prestige to the ceremony. The moment marked a defining milestone for the Alliance and underscored the importance of diaspora-led professional organisations within the UK’s wider institutional framework.

Central to the day were high-level engagements with H.E. Sara Amani, Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to the UK, and Ghana’s Deputy head of mission to the UK, Aquinas Quansah. Discussions focused on practical ways Diaspora Insurance can collaborate with African diplomatic missions and diaspora associations in Oxford and across the UK to deliver meaningful, culturally responsive insurance solutions.
Addressing the audience as one of the featured speakers, Dr. Sibert Mandega, Executive Director of Diaspora Insurance, highlighted the unique realities of diaspora life and the need for insurance solutions that reflect them.
“Diaspora communities live transnational lives,” Dr. Mandega noted.
“Our responsibility at Diaspora Insurance is to design protection that moves with people across borders, safeguarding both their lives in the UK and their responsibilities back home.”

Speaking directly to the healthcare professionals in attendance, he acknowledged the dual role many play as caregivers abroad and supporters of families and institutions at home.
“Healthcare professionals in the diaspora carry a double burden serving communities here while supporting families back home. Diaspora Insurance exists to support that reality with solutions that truly understand it.”
Dr. Mandega emphasised that insurance, when designed with purpose, goes beyond financial compensation.
“Insurance is not just a financial product, it is a tool for dignity, stability, and peace of mind. When diaspora professionals are protected, families are secure, and communities are strengthened.”
Diaspora Insurance was also represented at the ceremony Winnie James, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to standing with diaspora professionals as a trusted partner. The event brought together representatives from 10 member associations, reflecting a broad, diverse, and united diaspora presence.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Dr. Mandega concluded with a call for sustained partnerships:
“Our engagement with African diplomatic missions and diaspora organisations is intentional. Sustainable impact is achieved through partnerships built on trust, shared responsibility, and respect for identity.”
As oaths were taken and commitments renewed before civic leadership, the atmosphere at Oxford University reflected a collective ambition to build resilient, protected, and empowered diaspora communities. For Diaspora Insurance, the day marked more than sponsorship or participation, it affirmed a long-term commitment to walking alongside the African diaspora in shaping secure futures across borders.
