A carer recently succumbed to cardiac arrest while at work in Scotland and a GoFundMe appeal has since been launched to help raise funds for her funeral expenses.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Letwini Gidji was rushed to hospital on Sunday 9 March after she collapsed while at work in Aberdeen.
However, efforts to save her life were not successful and she passed on the following day.
According to the GoFundMe appeal Letwini reiterated her long-stated wish as she lay in a hospital bed that fateful Sunday night, saying, “when I die, I want to be buried next to where my father and mother are buried in Domboshava.”
Born in 1973, she was the eldest of six siblings who were orphaned at a tender age when both their parents passed away when she was seventeen years old.
According to a statement accompanying the funding appeal, Letwini “assumed the role of a breadwinner and worked tirelessly to put food on the table for her young siblings, twin sisters and three boys”.
“Due to economic hardship Letwini left Zimbabwe and came to UK and continued to support her siblings, (not only taking care of) their upkeep but seeing them through school.”
Letwini did not leave behind any children or spouse and was described as “charming young lady who was always smiling and always ready to help others whenever she could.
“She was also gifted with an angelic voice that when she sang at her beloved Apostolic Faith Muchinjikwa where she attended whenever she was free, most of the congregation would be moved to tears.”
