TWO separate GoFundMe appeals have been launched to raise funeral and body repatriation funds for two Ugandan nationals who died in the United Kingdom recently.
Described as a devoted father of seven children, Daniel Labeja Onen, 58, tragically succumbed to a heart attack at his London on the 29th of August.
Elsewhere, Sarah Christine Nanyunja Zziwa Miwanda, aged 62, died on the 7th of September at Lister Hospital, in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Described as “a devout Catholic, a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother”, Sarah succumbing to stage 4 breast cancer.
“From the moment of her diagnosis to her passing, the journey was tragically short, leaving us all in shock and grief,” reads the GoFundMe appeal which seeks to raise £12,000 (click here to donate).
“Sarah … touched the lives of so many with her strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit. Her greatest wish was to return to her homeland, where her closest family members reside. It is our hope to fulfil this wish by repatriating her body.
“We are humbly reaching out for your support during this difficult time. The costs associated with repatriation are significant, and any contribution, no matter how small, will help us bring her home to be laid to rest near her children.”
Meanwhile, family and friends said Daniel Onen was known for his “unwavering commitment to helping vulnerable children in Uganda” adding that his passing “left a profound impact on his family and the many lives he touched”.
“Daniel was a compassionate and hardworking man, dedicated to improving the lives of children in Uganda,” reads an obituary accompanying the funding appeal
“His work provided crucial support in the form of food, education, and healthcare to those in need. His sudden departure has created a void in the hearts of his loved ones and those who benefited from his selflessness.”
The GoFundMe appeal (click here to contribute) seeks to raise £10,000 “to cover the funeral expenses and the cost of transporting his body back to his family home in Gulu, Uganda, where he will be laid to rest”.
Organiser Fred Akena Opige added, “Your generous contributions, no matter the size, will bring comfort and relief to his children, wife and loved ones, allowing them to give the dignified farewell he deserves. We are deeply grateful for any support you can provide.”
