BURUNDI emerged overall winners of the second edition of the annual East Africa Football Tournament which was held in Paris, France last weekend.
Organised by John Kimani, this year’s the event saw 5 countries competing for honours including Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.
The tournament was launched 2023 with the support of Diaspora Insurance which continued its backing for the event this year.
Organisers said their aim is to promote unity among East African diasporans living in France as well as provide them with a networking platform.
Burundi topped the table with ten points, followed by Uganda (9 points) and with Kenya in third place (six points). Kenya finished in fourth place with four points while last year’s winners Tanzania finished bottom of the table.
Diaspora Insurance was represented by Executive Director Dr Sibert Mandega as well as Sales Executive Sylvia Daedlow who is based in Germany.

“Firstly, we would like to thank to organisers of such a wonderful tournament here in Paris,” said Dr Mandega.
“As a company, we are very passionate about supporting organisations and associations that bring African diasporas together.
“Sporting events like this help to promote health and well-being within our communities and as an insurance company, we have a huge interest in the health and well-being of our clients, he remarked on the sidelines of the tournament.
“When we sponsor such events, it is part of our corporate social responsibility. We are giving back to the community.”
He added; “In the not-so-distant future, Diaspora Insurance will be an official sponsor of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
“This year Diaspora Insurance sponsored a basketball tournament hosted by Cameroonians in Frankfurt, Germany, and another football and netball tournament held in Stuttgart, Germany, between Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.”
Meanwhile, also present at the tournament were officials from the Republic of Uganda’s embassy in France led by Ms Celia Atukunda who commended Diaspora Insurance for supporting the initiative.
She expressed appreciation for the value created by products and services offered by Diaspora Insurance, adding that she looked forward to further collaboration between the company and the Uganda diaspora community.

The product is now being offered to at least 19 African nationalities living and working abroad across the UK, Europe, the Americas and Australasia.
