Business Development Officer – Insurance, Zimbabwe Diaspora Corridor

Destiny Finance Ltd t/a Diaspora Insurance (www.diasporainsurance.com) is an insurance
company headquartered in Birmingham, United Kingdom, that specialises in the designing,
marketing and distributing of insurance products & risk management solutions targeted at
African nationals living and working in developed markets like the UK, EU, North America
& Canada. You will be joining a dynamic and ambitious firm focused on making a huge
impact on the African diasporas in terms of managing their insurable risks.

The ideal candidate will be a true Business Development Officer having a proven track
record of:

The role would be ideal for someone who has worked in a Business Development role within
an insurance, franchise, sales agent, distributor or merchant network. We are looking for a
candidate with a deep knowledge of the Zimbabwean community in the United Kingdom.

Person Specification

  • A true Business Development Officer
  • A marketing degree from a reputable university
  • Experience in promoting business through social media & online platforms like
    Facebook, Google, Twitter, YouTube, online TV/newspapers
  • Knowledge of the Zimbabwean diasporas in the UK. Being originally from Africa is
    an added advantage.
  • Experience in generating leads for the sales team
  • Experience in working in the insurance/financial services industry
  • Experience in working with community groups
  • Innovative thinker, drive, determination and focus on success
  • An experienced and effective negotiator
  • Ability to cross-sell whilst identifying new opportunities to maximise revenue and
    deliver profitable sales.
  • Enthused and skilled at cold calling and breaking down barriers.
  • A real problem solver
  • An exceptional team player.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and ambitious with exceptional levels of work ethic and drive.

Key Responsibilities:
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Generating leads for the call centre sales team
  • Recruiting and managing teams of field-based sales agents serving the target
    Zimbabwean diaspora communities in the UK
  • Exhibiting and promoting the business at events/festivals by the target clients
  • Having a leading role in developing the marketing strategy of the company
  • Building relationships with key figures in the communities
  • Recruiting brand ambassadors, influencers and leads generators
  • Testimonials and product endorsements from clients
  • Promoting the business and brand in the communities
  • Market analysis and intelligence
  • Personal account and sales responsibility
  • Lead change in culture and increase sales skills
  • Coaching and mentoring team members.
  • Develop a product knowledge which is second to none.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, drive efficiencies and improve
    competitiveness
  • Report on the daily performance of the team.
  • Ensure all processes and systems are used extensively by the team and that all
    company protocols are followed
  • Ensure company standards and values are implemented at all times
  • Ensure we are leading the market with exceptional customer services, product
    knowledge and sales activities
  • Plus any other duties as may be assigned and occasionally working in the field

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of NVQ in Business Admin, Sales or Marketing
  • A marketing degree or a CII or any insurance qualification would be an advantage
  • Business Development: at least 3 years (Required)

Job Types: Permanent

Salary: £28, 000 – £38, 000, depending on experience and a good commission plus the
opportunity to work in a dynamic and ambitious team with great career growth potential.
Opportunity to be promoted to Business Development Manager

Working Hours: You will be contracted at 44 hours per week working between our office opening hours of
0900hrs to 2100hrs Monday – Friday and 1000hrs to 1800hrs on Saturdays.
