AN appeal has been launched to raise £12,000 for a Zambian nurse who died in the United Kingdom last Wednesday.
Marlene Masona died at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and family and friends are looking to raise £12,000 to help with funeral and repatriation costs.
“We would really appreciate your support and assistance with raising funds for our dearest friend, mother, sister and colleague,” reads the GoFundMe appeal.
“Marlene is survived by a daughter. She worked as a nurse and her passion for caring and supporting others touched many lives.
“Her wish was to be laid to rest back in Zambia close to her family. As friends on behalf of the family, we wish to honour this request.”
The costs do not just include body repatriation, the appeal added.
“We seek your help towards Marlene’s Funeral arrangements, repatriation and shipment of personal effects to Zambia,” said Catherine Mwamba Kaonga who organised the funding appeal.
“As it is, the process is costly, and your contributions will make a huge difference.
“No amount is too small, so as friends and family we offer our sincerest gratitude for your kind donation.”
As of this Tuesday, some £2,000 had been raised against the £12,000 target.
