A GoFundMe appeal has since been launched for a Kenya student who drowned while swimming in Australia earlier this month.
According to news reports from Australia, a rescue operation was set in motion after 23-year-old Orville Kimutai Tures disappeared at a popular swimming spot at Stockton Lake, near the town of Collie.
The tragic incident occurred in the afternoon on September 10.
Witnesses told investigators that, at some point during the swimming exercise, Kimutai called out for assistance, but people on the shore were unable to help.
The search came to a tragic end when his lifeless body was discovered on Monday, September 11, in the water about 20 metres from the bank.
A GoFundMe appeal has since been launched to help with repatriation costs with burial scheduled for the end of the month.
“The body was handed to the coroner after which it will go through a postmortem,” Kimutai’s father Horace Tures told TUKO.co.ke.
“We are told the report will take around two weeks for them to clear the body for repatriation.”
He added; “The burial has tentatively been set for September 30 subject to the coroner’s report.”
Kimutai had only relocated to Australia in March this year and was said to have been fitting very well into the local community.

The GoFundMe appeal has so far raised $2,680 against a target of 30,000 Australian dollars.
