UK: Events planner Catt Mwitt, 27, was crowned Face of Kenya (UK) 2023 at a glittering gala dinner held at a central Birmingham hotel on Saturday.
The event was sponsored by Diaspora Insurance, specialists in providing risk and insurance solutions to the extensive African diaspora community with the company’s coverage now extending beyond Europe to include the Americas and more than a dozen African countries.
Born and raised in Kenya but based in the seaside town of Brighton where she has lived for eleven years, Mwitt is the founder of Igoki foundation and also runs shopgoki (lifestyle shop).

She came tops, besting lawyer Diana Mbocha who was first runner up and also community champion with Mercy Biwott in third place.
Judges commended her for “connecting with the community” and working with them to establish their needs and come up with possible solutions.
Mwitt said she was shocked by the number of displaced and street families in Kenya on her last visit to the country and decided to establish the Igoki Foundation to assist them and mentor youths.
Face of Kenya (UK) is part of Face of Kenya International which was founded by Janet Wainaina Mwangi and has been running for more than a decade including in countries such as as France, Germany, Norway and the United States of America (USA).
“We started the initiative in order to give our community a platform that brings community cohesion, youth empowerment and intentional mentorship,” said Mwangi.
“It gives the diaspora a common purpose and gives the youth a way of finding their roots as they find their philanthropic spirit. We will continue to provide more services and more convenience for our Kenyan youths, their families and friends of Kenya.
“We will seek to help more people in our community get on solid ground to be the pillars for Kenyans abroad, and provide a platform that Kenyans can depend on.”
Meanwhile, Diaspora Insurance was one of the key sponsors of the event with Executive Director Dr Sybert Mandega explaining the interventions the company has innovated to support Africa’s diaspora communities.
A key product for the company is its Diaspora Funeral Cash Plan which was designed to assist families in times of bereavement while living abroad.
“I think most of us here have come across cases or issues of people who have lost their loved ones, either here in the diaspora or back home and because they don’t have enough funds or resources to meet funeral expenses, they go to GoFundMe which can be quite painful and traumatic,” he said.
“So, what we have done is to come up with a product called Diaspora Funeral Cash Plan which helps people in the diaspora to cover not just themselves but also people back home because it is not just us that we are worried about also those back home who depend on us in the diaspora.”
He added; “This is a very good cover because it provides cash immediately so that you are able to meet expenses associated with end of life.
“It’s a very straight-forward application process; there is what we call guaranteed acceptance because we don’t even want to know what your height or weight is or whether drink or smoke.
“As long as you come from Kenya or from Africa, you are accepted and you qualify to be covered.”
