Ms Toroitic also urged Kenyans in the diaspora to get insurance in case of bereavement as they have seen “very desperate cases”, explaining that the government is not always able to assist.

Diaspora Insurance was one of the key sponsors of the grand reunion of Kenyan Women In The United States (KWITU) where the guest of honour was embassy chief of mission and former foreign affairs minister Jayne Toroitich.
Attended by more than 500 members from across the United States (US), and others from as far afield as Canada and Australia, the reunion was held between August 1-3 in Las Vegas.
The main theme of the grand reunion was the wellness of diaspora women who always carry the burdens of families in the diaspora and back home in Africa. These burdens have taken a significant toll on the mental and physical well-being of women in the diaspora.
In her address to the attendees, KWITU founder and president Lilly Richards urged women in the diaspora to prioritise their well-being being and self-care.

“If we women are broken, there is no hope for our families and communities at large. Let us therefore prioritize our health even as we chase the bag and the American dream.
“This is not being selfish; it is self-preservation”, said Mrs Richards, a successful entrepreneur with businesses in the US and Kenya who also has a huge passion for family and supporting women in business.
Guest of honour and Kenya embassy in the US chief of mission, Jayne Toroitich, said the diaspora represents the true economic transformation of Kenya through its immense contribution to the country’s economy.
The Kenyan government, she added, is committed to championing the protection of the diaspora’s rights and welfare.
Ms Toroitich challenged Kenyans based in the US to take political leadership positions in Congress saying this would help further the agenda of the diasporas both in the US and back home.
She also urged Kenyans in the diaspora to get insurance in case of bereavement as they have seen “very desperate cases”, explaining that the government is not always able to assist.
Diaspora Insurance was represented by Executive Director, Dr Sibert Mandega, and global sales executive Ms Vivian Onzere.
Dr Mandega commended the leadership of KWITU for organising “such a wonderful event”, adding that Diaspora Insurance prides itself in supporting organisations in the African diaspora communities in across the world.
“Not only do we support the African diaspora communities through our unique insurance policies, but we support them through sponsoring their events and projects,” said Dr Mandega.
Ms Onzere highlighted products provided by Diaspora Insurance, especially the bespoke Diaspora Funeral Cash Plan which allows diasporas to cover themselves and their loved ones back home on the same policy.
The product has benefited thousands of families worldwide during bereavement. Diaspora Insurance continues to grow and is now being offered to more than 19 African nationalities living in the diaspora.
Meanwhile, the grand reunion also featured a fashion show where models show-cased some amazing African outfits.
After the fashion show, the dance floor was opened and the guests danced to beautiful tunes from across Africa.
KWITU is a non-profit and non-partisan organisation that was incorporated in 2016.
Its main mission is to connect, support and empower Kenyan women living in the USA while bridging the gap between US based Kenyan women and those back home in Kenya.
The organisation has, over the years, grown to become one of the biggest Kenyan non-profit organisations in the US with more than 13,000 active members.
