A GoFundMe appeal has been lunched for a Zambian nurse who succumbed to a brain tumour in Manchester earlier this month.
Janet Chimbanga Chileshe, who died on the first of April, had relocated to the United Kingdom in 2004.
“Her battle with High grade Glioma was brief but intense, leaving us to cherish her memory even more,” reads an only tribute.
The funding appeal seeks to raise £10,000 and, as of Monday, contributions had reached just over £4,200.
“As a lot of the Zambian diaspora community in the UK may know we lost our mother, Janet Chimbanga Chileshe in the late hours of 1st April 2024
in Manchester,” wrote Bwalya Chileshe who is organising the fund-raiser.
“Janet came to the UK in 2004 with her children Bwalya Chichi and Mwitwa and she worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years. She was also a grandmother to Nyla and Jayden, she loved her grandkids.
“Anyone that encountered Mom will know what a lovely person she was, very active and supportive in social circles like ZOCF and women’s events.
“It is sad that she had to go after a short battle with High grade Glioma. We are really going to miss her.”
Another tribute shared online added, “Janet’s journey from Zambia to the UK, and her subsequent life here, was marked by dedication and love.
“(Her) life was a testament to love, care, and dedication. Known for her vibrant presence and supportive nature, she was deeply involved in social circles like ZOCF and women’s events.”
Contributions raised from the GoFundMe appeal will “help with funeral expenses and possibly fulfil the family’s wish to bury Janet in Zambia”.
