UNITED KINGDOM: A GoFundMe appeal has been launched to help raise £7,000 for the repatriation of to Zimbabwe of a man who was fatally stabbed in Barnsley.
South Yorkshire Police officers were called at 1.21am on Wednesday (February 21) to reports 26-year-old Lazarus Makono had been stabbed in a house in Cooperative Street.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Makono was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have now appealed for help so he can be repatriated for burial in Zimbabwe.
“Lazarus was a vibrant soul, full of laughter and kindness. His life was cut short, leaving behind a void that can never be filled to his loved ones,” said Sharron Muzunze who organised the appeal
“As we mourn this unimaginable loss, we also seek to honour Lazarus’s memory and provide support to his family during this incredibly difficult time. We’ve set up this GoFundMe to assist with his repatriation of his body to Zimbabwe so that his parents, aunt and siblings can give him a decent burial.”
Muzunze added; “Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in helping Lazarus’s family during their time of need. Let’s come together as a community to show our love and support for Lazarus and his family.”
Meanwhile, Terrance Mlotshwa, 27, of Derby, has since been charged with murder and was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Two women, aged 20 and 25, and a third man, 32, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in relation to the incident.
They have since been released on bail.
