Over 300 Children Enjoy Christmas Cheer in Zambia Through Kwela Trust with Diaspora Insurance Support

Christmas came early for more than 300 underprivileged children from various care centres in Lusaka, Zambia, who benefited from the Diaspora Insurance Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. They gathered at Chaisa Catholic Church for a special Christmas lunch organised by Kwela Trust Foundation, an organisation that has been operating since 2014. Financial support came from Diaspora Insurance, a United Kingdom–based company that has been in operation for 14 years, making the celebration possible.
Each year, Kwela Trust raises resources to host a Christmas party for underprivileged children from various care homes in Lusaka. The organisation relies on donations and support from well-wishers, ensuring the event remains a key part of its community outreach. In December 2025, Diaspora Insurance stepped into sponsor the mega Christmas lunch.

The celebration brought together children, volunteers, church members, and partners. The day was filled with warmth, laughter, and thanksgiving.The children enjoyed a hearty meal of rice, chicken, fresh salads, buns, and drinks. For many, the experience was both rare and memorable.One child shared their joy, saying: “Thank you Diaspora Insurance for giving us this Christmas lunch. You have made us feel loved and special, and we will always remember this day!” Many other children echoed similar sentiments, reflecting on how the support restored dignity and a sense of belonging.
Kwela Trust Director, Laura Miti, thanked Diaspora Insurance for sponsoring the 2025 Children’s Christmas Lunch.
She explained that Kwela Trust was selected through the insurer’s CSR programme, following a board-led nomination process. Miti recalled receiving a surprise call from Diaspora Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Madzingo in early December 2025. He informed her that Kwela Trust had been nominated. The charity draw received over 500 nominations. Kwela Trust was among only 11 beneficiaries selected across Africa.
“This support is huge for us and for the children we serve,” Miti said. “Diaspora Insurance’s generosity has allowed us to spread joy and hope.”
She narrated, “I received a surprise call from Diaspora Insurance CEO Jeff Madzingo in early December 2025. He informed her met Kwela Trust had been nominated for the charity draw, which received over 500 nominations. Kwela Trust was among just 11 beneficiaries selected across Africa.I was surprised at the same time excited . I pray that such partnerships remain intact ahead of of the new year.”

Miti also praised the volunteers who cooked and served meals. She extended special thanks to the mothers of Chaisa Catholic Church for their dedication, as well as Zarina Geloo, whose home has long been used as a food preparation venue.
She added that donations received ahead of Christmas would continue to support children through the Chilanga Feeding Programme, ensuring the spirit of giving lives on beyond the festive season.
The 2025 event marked the 12th Christmas feeding programme hosted by Kwela Trust. The partnership with Diaspora Insurance continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Through its CSR initiatives, Diaspora Insurance aims to give back to communities, foster social development, and bring hope to those who need it most.
