A New Dawn for South Africans in the UK: The Birth of SACA UK

Diaspora Insurance News

For thousands of South Africans living in the UK, life abroad brings both opportunities and major challenges, from financial pressures and cultural disconnection to immigration struggles. But in Birmingham, a significant change has begun.

At the Diaspora Insurance House, community members gathered to confront these issues and officially launch an organisation designed to uplift, protect, and empower the South African community abroad.

This historic moment marked the birth of South Africans Community Abroad UK (SACA UK), a unified platform dedicated to supporting South Africans throughout the United Kingdom.

Why the South African Community Needs Support in the UK

Life in the diaspora often means facing hardships alone. South Africans in the UK frequently struggle with:• High bereavement and repatriation costs
• Financial strain and emergency expenses
• Isolation from culture, family, and community
• Confusing immigration processes
• Challenges settling as newcomers in a foreign country

These realities sparked the need for a structured organisation that understands the unique challenges experienced by South Africans abroad.

Diaspora Insurance: Preparing the Community for the Future

To open the event, Diaspora Insurance Chief Executive Officer , Jeff Madzingo delivered a compelling presentation on the importance of planning for the unexpected.

He highlighted how families often resort to fundraising when a loved one passes away in the UK, a painful and unnecessary burden when proper funeral cover is in place. His message was clear: financial preparedness is the foundation of dignity and peace of mind for migrant communities.

Madzingo explained that “whenever there is bereavement, there is begging,” emphasising that families suffer twice, first from the loss itself, and then from the humiliation of having to ask for help.

He added, “Losing someone is traumatic enough. Having to beg afterwards is a second wound that no family should endure.”

He urged attendees to take proactive steps to protect their loved ones:

“We encourage you to plan ahead. Funeral cover is not just a product. it is dignity, it is peace of mind, it is love for your family.”

Madzingo also highlighted the limitations families face when someone passes away without proper arrangements:

“We can’t sell your assets to bury you. We can’t retrieve your money from the bank. Even if you have a house abroad, once you pass on, it becomes deceased property.
Instead of a financial crisis in your pockets, you can choose to be covered. Protect yourself, protect your family that is the true meaning of preparedness.”
