By Diaspora Insurance News

HUNDREDS of people gathered at the Tariro Satellite Clinic in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, on Tuesday for this year’s commemorations of the United Nations (UN) International Day for Persons with Disability.

The commemorations were held in the informal settlement of Hopley and organised by the Tariro Persons with Disability Support Group in partnership with Mai Dhuterere Foundation with the support of Diaspora Insurance.

One of the guests of honour, Prophetess Ellen Manzvanzvike, commended Diaspora Insurance for the support saying; “We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Diaspora Insurance for their remarkable efforts in Harare, focusing on supporting individuals with disabilities.

“This initiative not only underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to social inclusion but also reflects its dedication to empowering marginalized communities.

She added; “By addressing the needs of people with disabilities, Diaspora Insurance has set an exemplary standard for corporate social responsibility. Their actions resonate deeply, offering hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to those who often face unique challenges in society.

“Such initiatives remind us of the power of collective action and the importance of fostering an inclusive environment where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.

“We applaud Diaspora Insurance for their visionary leadership and meaningful impact, and we look forward to seeing more efforts like these in the future.”

For her part, Dhuterere Foundation head, Dorcus Vambe said, “Diaspora Insurance has shown incredible support for us here in Hopley, Harare South, an area most people hardly ever think about.

“I really want to thank the company for the work they have done; without them I would not have been able to do this, but with the company’s support families and persons living with disabilities were able celebrate as they commemorate this important day.

“I just want to remind our relatives and compatriots living abroad that Diaspora Insurance’s bespoke funeral cash plan is an important policy to have.

“So, please sign up so we all have peace of mind. Peace of mind comes from knowing that should the day come – as it does for all for us – when you’re called by the Lord, Diaspora Insurance will have your back.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations with the aim of promoting “the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life”.

According to the UN, more than one billion people, approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability with 80 per cent live in developing countries.

The theme for this year’s global commemorations was “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”.
