GofundMe appeals for student who drowned in Germany; and woman who died after holiday

By Diaspora Insurance News

FUNDING appeals have been launched to help with funeral and body repatriation costs for a Zimbabwean student who tragically drowned in Germany and a mother who died suddenly in the UK just after returning from a holiday.

20-year-old Dumisani Mahwite, who was studying sustainable engineering at the Technical University of Ingolstadt, was reported missing since last Friday (September 6) after going swimming with friends on the River Danube.

“On Tuesday night at around 00:45 a.m., a patrol crew received information that a lifeless person was floating in the water at the Bergheim barrage,” reads a report from Germany.

“Together with the local fire department, the body was recovered. In the meantime, he has been identified as the 20-year-old student from Zimbabwe, who has been missing since Friday.”

“The Technical University of Ingolstadt announced on Sunday that the entire university family was dismayed by the accident.”

A GoFundMe appeal has since been launched to raise £15,000 to help with funeral and body repatriation costs.

“Dumi was student with a bright and promising future ahead of him, a beacon of kindness, warmth, and love in our community, and his loss is deeply felt by his parents, siblings and all who knew him,” reads a note accompanying the appeal. Click here to donate.

“As we come to terms with this devastating news, we are asking for your support to help cover the costs of Dumi’s funeral and to repatriate him back to Zimbabwe, where he can be laid to rest with dignity among his loved ones.

“Any contribution, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated and will bring us closer to giving Dumi the farewell he deserves. Please help us in honouring his life and supporting the family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Elsewhere in the UK, a separate appeal is seeking to raise £15,000 (click here to donate) for a woman who died suddenly just after returning from a holiday in Zimbabwe.

Appeal organiser, Ruth Ncube said, “Our beloved mother, who was a caring and devoted mother to five children, passed away on the 5th of September.

“In her life, she brought so much love and joy to our family, and in her final wish, she requested to be laid to rest in Zimbabwe, where she was born. The day she returned from our family holiday from Zimbabwe she passed away suddenly, leaving us heartbroken.

She added; “We are hoping to raise funds to fulfil her last wish by covering the costs of sending her body to Zimbabwe and helping all six of us travel there to give her a proper farewell.

“This is incredibly important to us, as honouring her wish is the last gift we can give her, and we want to come together as a family to say goodbye.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us during this difficult time. Thank you for your support in helping us lay our mother to rest with the dignity and love she deserves.”
