KENYANS based in the Netherlands recently celebrated Mashujaa (Heroes) Day with Ambassador Margaret Shava reminding the diaspora community that “for we Kenyans living outside Kenya, it is important for us to hold fast to our Kenyan identity”.
Ambassador Shava was the guest of honour at the celebrations which were organised by the Kenyan Diaspora Association in Netherlands (KDAN) and held at a picturesque lakeside restaurant in Amsterdam.
The celebrations were supported by, among other companies, Diaspora Insurance, which was represented by Executive Director, Dr Sibert Mandega.

“(Today) we especially remember and honour those who struggled and sacrificed; gave their blood and their very lives so that we can today enjoy the freedom and human dignity that comes with being a Kenyan in the community of world nations,” said ambassador Shava.
“We also celebrate and honour those who have contributed in various ways towards the life of post-Independence Kenya; today is a day to see who we are and what we have achieved.”
She added; “It is a day to draw inspiration from our Kenyan brothers and sisters who propel us onwards and upwards as we strive for excellence in our daily lives.”
Ambassador Shava commended KDAN for organising the commemorations as well as Diaspora Insurance and other companies for helping support the event.
Led by Chris Ochieng, KDAN is the umbrella association for all the groups of Kenyans in the Netherlands.
