THE inaugural East Africa Cup tournament was recently held in Paris, featuring Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with sponsorship by UK-based Diaspora Insurance.
Organised by East African Countries Teams and coordinated by John Kimani, the tournament was held at the Stade de Foot Pompadour in the Creteil area of the Paris Suburbs.
After sets of parallel matches with all the four teams facing each other, Tanzania emerged overall winners.
Dozens of fans from the diaspora communities of the four nations watched the tournament with Diaspora Insurance, the official sponsors, providing branded kit for the teams as well as medals for all the participants.

Kimani, who is also Diaspora Insurance’s sales executive for France presented the winners’ trophy to the Tanzanian team.
He also took the opportunity to explain the Diaspora Insurance Funeral Cash Plan cover which is available to 13 African diaspora nationalities who can cover themselves as well as their families back in Africa.
Based in the UK, the company was launched more than 10 years ago to address a challenge faced by the diaspora community which saw families either going into debt or having to resort to GoFundMe appeals in times of bereavement.
Representative of teams which participated in the tournament commended Diaspora Insurance for backing the initiative and challenged the company to continue supporting activities that help unite communities.
