The Kenyan community in the United Kingdom is mourning the death of Irene Mbugua, a 36-year-old mother of four. Irene was murdered by a patient while working in care.
She came from Mataara in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, Kenya, and moved to the UK two years ago. Like many, she came to work hard and give her children a better life. In that short time, Irene became loved at work and in her community.
Funeral Plans and Support
Irene’s family lives in the UK, so she will be buried here. But the family has no access to public funds. This means they cannot get government help with funeral costs or daily needs.
The community has stepped in to help. A fund has been set up to raise £20,000 for Irene’s funeral and her children. Friends and well-wishers have started giving, but more support is needed.
